PRF Brings Portable Refuelling and More to the Hydrogen Sector

Portuguese technology developer PRF Gas Solutions is driving hydrogen adoption with innovations such as a portable refuelling station and a novel blending and injection system.

The company’s DRHYVE portable refuelling station for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, showcased at the Dakar Ralley in Saudi Arabia, is designed to meet the high-performance demands of motorsports while promoting a sustainable future.

The 40-foot DRHYVE system is suitable for high ambient temperatures and includes H35 and H70 dispensing, T40 cooling plus 500- and 1000-bar compression and storage. The station is designed for plug-and-play use with no civil works, simplifying setup and commissioning.

A 350-bar version of the DRHYVE station was launched in 2021 in the city of Cascais, Portugal, supplying two buses and a fuel cell car. PRF’s innovation efforts also include the development of the MIXEO blending and injection system and the construction of advanced hydrogen production plants.

PRF has emerged as something of a trailblazer in the hydrogen sector after a history spanning more than three decades in gas infrastructure engineering, construction and maintenance.

The company says its evolution reflects a commitment to sustainability and a response to global calls for cleaner energy sources. “Sustainability is a core value at PRF Gas Solutions,” says PRF’s Manuel Fonseca, Business Development Manager.

“The company’s hydrogen solutions contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting renewable energy sources. Resource efficiency and waste reduction are also prioritised, further supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy.”

The company works alongside industry leaders to advance hydrogen infrastructure projects, which include the construction of fixed refuelling stations and the development of hydrogen production plants pivotal in the adoption of hydrogen as a mainstream energy source.

PRF adheres to stringent safety standards and employs advanced technology and rigorous testing to ensure the integrity and performance of its hydrogen refuelling stations.

“From engineering robust refuelling stations to constructing state-of-the-art hydrogen production plants through electrolysis, the company’s offerings are at the forefront of the industry,” says Manuel at PRF.

“This unwavering commitment to safety underscores the company’s dedication to its customers and the reliability of its systems.”

Looking ahead, Manuel says PRF Gas Solutions has ambitious goals for the hydrogen industry, focusing on innovation, expansion and sustainability.

“The company aims to solidify its position as a global leader in hydrogen infrastructure development and play a pivotal role in the widespread adoption of hydrogen as a clean and efficient energy source,” says Manuel.

“The future of energy is hydrogen, and PRF Gas Solutions is leading the charge towards a more sustainable world for generations to come.”

"Driving into a sustainable future, PRF Gas Solutions showcases its innovative spirit with the DRHYVE portable refuelling station at the Dakar Rally. Designed for the extreme demands of motorsport, this system is not just about speed—it's about accelerating the world towards a zero-emission future."
