The innovative HyRail® fuel cell system from Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH
The German hydrogen fuel cell expert Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH (www.proton-motor.de) enables train and engineering manufacturers as well as integrators and SMEs to realise emission-free fuel cell electric drives through its new fuel cell system “HyRail®”. The company specialises in modular systems using graphitic bipolar plates, as only these meet the technical and commercial requirements of the applications. Due to the highest fuel cell performance in the industry and in conjunction with modularly scalable systems, every power requirement can be achieved.
Emission-free mobility plus qualification and certification
The core components of the Proton Motor systems are the powerful fuel cell stacks developed in-house with their globally unique double integration possibility. Thanks to the modular system for hydrogen, air and cooling, specific requirements can be implemented and serviced quickly or can be easily delivered as pre-assembled “plug & play” solutions. Customers and partners are accompanied from concept development to implementation as well as throughout the entire product life cycle plus they will be qualified respectively certified on request. 25 years of electrification knowledge and a large supplier network from related technical areas, such as hydrogen storage systems, are also available.
Flagship projects such as the new hydrogen milling train
Proton Motor is excellently positioned for the future as the reliable supplier of green drive technology “Made of Germany”. Hydrogen as an eco-friendly energy carrier is also a great benefit for the railways – and not only in passenger transport. In rail serviceability, independent exhaust- and noise-free cleantech innovations are in demand to complement and replace overhead lines.
The European leading specialist has made a name of itself in flagship projects for rail applications. For example, the world’s first rail milling machine with hydrogen fuel cell drive is based on Proton Motor`s innovative “Hy-Rail®” fuel cell system. For the Austrian client “Linsinger Maschinenbau Gesellschaft mbH”, the customised fuel cell solution with an installed power of 214 kW has been successfully produced and delivered in summer 2021.
Milling concept with renewable energies for CO2 neutrality
Especially in subway tunnels, the high-performance milling machine type represents an improvement from an ecological point of view in favor of the desired CO2 neutrality. In addition, the health risk to operators during track maintenance benefits from the zero-emission milling concept, which eliminates dust pollution – unlike previous series.
